What is TSS, and do you need to renew it?
Tally Software Services keeps TallyPrime up to date and switches on its connected features. Here’s what an active TSS adds, how long it lasts and what happens if it lapses.
What TSS is
TSS stands for Tally Software Services. It’s a subscription that sits on top of your TallyPrime licence and brings you the latest developments in the product and in statutory laws, plus the services that need a connection to Tally.
Your licence is what lets you run TallyPrime. TSS is what keeps it current and connected. The two are separate, which is why a business can own a licence and still have a TSS that has expired.
What an active TSS adds
Product upgrades and updates: new releases and enhancements as Tally ships them. Upgrades are only available with an active TSS, so a lapsed subscription leaves you on the release you already have.
Connected features: data synchronization between branches, remote access to your reports, and browser reports that let you check dashboards and reports from a web browser, even on a phone, without TallyPrime installed on that device.
Newer releases, newer features
Because upgrades need TSS, an active subscription is also how you reach features that arrived in later releases. Bank statement import and automatic bank reconciliation came with TallyPrime Release 6.0, for example, and TallyDrive cloud backup came with Release 7.0.
Bank statement import works with Excel, CSV and MT940 statement files, and automatic reconciliation depends on your bank being supported for statement import in TallyPrime. Support varies by bank, so we check yours during setup rather than promise it in advance.
How long TSS lasts
TSS is a yearly subscription. It stays active for 12 months from the date it’s activated or renewed. If you rent a licence instead of buying one, TSS stays valid for the length of the rental.
Renewing before it expires avoids a gap in updates and connected features. Powercomputers handles TSS renewals, so you can renew through the same team that supports your installation.
Is TSS mandatory?
No. TallyPrime keeps working without TSS: you can still record vouchers, run reports and use everything in the release you have installed.
What stops is everything that depends on Tally’s services: upgrades to new releases, on-demand data synchronization through Tally.NET, remote access and browser reports. A single office that rarely needs those may manage for a while. If you have branches, staff who check reports remotely, or you want the latest features, renewing matters.
