How to choose a Tally partner in Tanzania

By the PowerTally team 3 min read

The partner you buy TallyPrime from sets it up, trains your team and supports you for years. Here’s what a Tally partner does, and the questions to ask before you choose one.

What a Tally partner does

Tally Solutions works through a network of partners, which it describes as skilled organisations focused on sales, service and recommending the right business solution. In practice, the partner you buy from is the team you deal with for years: they supply the licence, set it up, train your staff and answer the phone when something goes wrong.

Tally’s partner page describes different kinds of partner. Certified partners are recognised for their knowledge of Tally products and handle implementation, support and add-ons, while associate partners are the contact for a new licence or a TSS renewal. Knowing which help you need is a good place to start.

The work beyond the licence

Licences and renewals: the partner supplies Silver, Gold or TallyPrime Server licences and renews Tally Software Services (TSS), the yearly subscription for upgrades and connected features such as data synchronization and remote access. Implementation and training: setting up your company, accounts, stock and users, then teaching the people who will use it.

Customization: TallyPrime has its own development language, TDL, which Tally describes as the native language for customizing the interface, reports and business logic, and for exchanging data with other systems. Tally says its partners are trained and certified to build new capabilities, so ask what a partner has built before.

Support and, in Mainland Tanzania, fiscal invoicing: someone has to keep TallyPrime working with a Virtual Fiscal Device (VFD) so sales invoices reach the TRA. Ask whether the partner supplies and supports that themselves.

Questions to ask any partner

How long have you been a Tally partner? Tally’s partner locator shows each partner’s partner-since year, ratings and contact details, so you can check. Who will actually do my implementation and training, and where are they based? What customizations and add-ons have you built, and can you show me one working?

How do I get support, and from which office? How do you handle TSS renewals? Do you supply VFD, and are you an authorised supplier? If part of my business is in Zanzibar, where fiscal receipts go through ZRA’s own system, what applies there?

Ask about your data, too. Who will bring in your opening balances, customers, suppliers and stock, how will they check the figures match your old books, and how will backups be set up from the first day?

Check the fit before you sign

Ask for a demo on your own business rather than a sample company: your invoice layout, your stock items, the reports you read. A partner who understands your business will ask as many questions as they answer.

Ask for a quote that separates the licence, TSS, VFD, add-ons, customization and training, so you can see what you’re paying for and compare like with like.

Then ask what happens after go-live: who you call in the first month, how new staff are trained later, and how you request a change to a report or an invoice format. If you have more than one site, ask which office covers each one, and when someone can visit rather than help remotely.
