TallyPrime vs Zoho Books for Tanzanian businesses
Zoho Books is cloud accounting sold as a monthly or yearly subscription, with features that grow as you move up its plans. TallyPrime is a licence you own, with full inventory and costing in every edition, set up and supported locally by Powercomputers.
The short answer
For a Tanzanian business that holds stock, works across several locations or needs TRA invoices from its accounts, TallyPrime includes stock, warehouses and batches in every edition, and once the licence is bought there’s no ongoing licence fee (TSS renewal is optional). Zoho Books suits businesses that want browser-only accounting and are happy to pay monthly, choosing a higher plan as their stock needs grow.
Where TallyPrime is the stronger choice
A licence you own, not a monthly fee
TallyPrime is bought once as a lifetime licence (or rented, if you prefer), and keeps working even if you let the optional yearly TSS lapse. Zoho Books is a subscription, billed monthly or yearly for each organisation.
Warehouses, batches and BOMs in every edition
Godowns, batches with manufacturing and expiry dates, bills of materials and manufacturing journals are part of TallyPrime. On Zoho Books’ plan comparison, warehouses, batch tracking and composite items appear only on the Elite and Ultimate plans.
No per-seat ceiling on your office network
A TallyPrime Gold licence has no limit on users over your LAN. Each Zoho Books plan includes a set number of users, with extra users charged per user.
TRA invoices straight from your books
Power VFD, developed by Powercomputers as an authorised EFD and VFD supplier, lists TallyPrime as a compatible system, so sales invoices go to the TRA without a physical EFD. Zoho Books isn’t on Power VFD’s published compatibility list.
Your data where you choose
TallyPrime keeps company data on your own computers, or on Powercomputers’ cloud server if you’d rather work remotely. Zoho Books is cloud accounting hosted by Zoho.
A Tally partner in Tanzania since 2004
Powercomputers sells, installs, trains and supports TallyPrime from offices in eight towns and remotely across all 31 regions. Zoho Books’ country editions include Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, but not Tanzania.

When Zoho Books may suit you better
If your business mainly sends invoices and records expenses, holds little or no stock, and wants to work entirely in a browser or phone app, Zoho Books’ lower plans cover that well. It’s also a natural fit if you already run other Zoho apps.
If you operate mainly in a country with its own Zoho Books edition, such as Kenya, that edition’s local setup may matter more to you than the differences on this page.

How switching worksFrequently asked questions
They’re priced differently. TallyPrime is a one-time lifetime licence (or a rental), with an optional yearly TSS for upgrades and connected features. Zoho Books is an ongoing subscription per organisation. Ask Powercomputers for a TallyPrime quote and compare it with the Zoho plan you’d need over the years you expect to use it.
Yes. TallyPrime can import masters and transactions from Excel, so ledgers, items and opening balances exported from another system can be brought in. Powercomputers plans the move with you during implementation.
Zoho Books isn’t on Power VFD’s published compatibility list. Ask Zoho directly whether and how it connects to TRA’s VFD. TallyPrime is on Power VFD’s list.
Yes, in two ways: with an active TSS you can view reports from any browser, and Powercomputers can install TallyPrime on its cloud server so your team works on it from anywhere.
